How to Get Involved in the Life of the Church There are many more ways to become involved in the life of First Presbyterian. Children, teens, college students, and women are provided with special ways to be active members of the church. Among the small groups that presently are active at First Presbyterian are a Thursday Noon Bible Study based on the lectionary, Liturgical Arts, and Eco-Justice. New groups are welcome and fostered. The primary governing body of the Presbyterian congregation is the Session. Elders are elected by the congregation to plan the life and work of the church. The Deacons of the church visit and offer assistance and comfort to congregational members. Communion and chancel preparation are also part of the many services they provide. Nursery-Kindergarten Sunday School lessons will be combined with crafts, music, and play activities appropriate for young children. Similar activities will continue during the church hour. Elementary-age Sunday School lessons will be combined with crafts and musical activities appropriate for children from first-sixth grade. The teacher is a music educator who will help the children use our large assortment of percussion instruments in addition to singing. Activities for this age group will continue during the church hour. Youth Sunday Every Fifth Sunday is Youth Sunday with the Youth being Liturgists Adult An adult group meets on Sunday mornings. Lectionary Discussion The scripture for the day will be read and discussed in an informal setting. Come enjoy the coffee and company of others. Earth Justice Group This group meets the 2nd Sunday of each month at 11:45 in the church library |
